In 2002, EchoLink was launched, transforming the way amateur radio operators communicate by integrating Internet technology with traditional radio. Created by Jonathan Taylor, K1RFD, EchoLink allows licensed amateur radio operators to connect to repeaters, simplex links, and other EchoLink users around the world via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). This innovative system bridges the gap between the Internet and radio waves, enabling operators to participate in QSOs (contacts) globally, regardless of physical distance or propagation conditions. EchoLink has greatly expanded the reach and flexibility of amateur radio, providing new opportunities for communication, experimentation, and collaboration within the global amateur radio community.
